Hi! We are Jason & Charity, the co-founders & creators of Shearwater Cove.

Shearwater Cove is the culmination of our shared dream to create a sustainable wilderness retreat in the stunning landscape of Alaska’s Kenai Fjords. Building this business from the ground up (quite literally!) hasn’t been easy, but it has been immensely rewarding.

In 2015 Shearwater Cove was a notch in the coastline that was home only to the trees and rocky shore. Enter a couple who had just met, fallen in love, and wanted to forge a life together in our coastal community of Seward. Within less than a year of dating we decided that ‘if we build it, they will come!’ And with that, we got to work because there was a lot to do. Neither of us had a background in business, but Jason had construction experience and a captain’s license, and Charity had management and communications experience with an ecotourism company in Seward. The rest we would learn along the way.

Building Shearwater Cove has been a labor of love not just for us, but for our friends and family who worked alongside us in the pouring rain, sleet, wind, and mud to bring this vision to life. Shearwater Cove is a hand-built and hand-crafted space that we designed to be in harmony with nature and the dynamic landscape of the Kenai Fjords. We wanted to showcase the beauty of this area by treading lightly and designing our minimal-impact yurts and raised boardwalks to flow with the landscape.

Our guiding vision in creating and developing Shearwater Cove has been to provide an environmentally conscious avenue for people to experience the wilderness of the Kenai Fjords without having to sacrifice their creature comforts.
